The Doosan Bears, led by manager Lee Seung-yup, swept the Kiwoom Heroes for the second straight day to secure a sweep of the best-of-seven series. Doosan completed a 7-4 come-from-behind victory over Kiwoom in the 11th game of the season at Jamsil Stadium on Thursday.
Doosan’s starting lineup was center fielder Jung Soo-bin, left fielder Lee Yoo-chan, third baseman Heo Kyung-min, catcher Yang Yang-ji, first baseman Yang Seok-hwan, designated hitter Kim Jae-hwan, shortstop Park Jun-young, right fielder Yang Chanyeol, and second baseman Jeon Min-jae. National team right-hander Kwak Bin took the mound.
Kiwoom’s counterpart is center fielder Lee Joo-hyung, designated hitter Ronnie Dawson, third baseman Song Sung-moon, second baseman Kim Hye-sung, first baseman Choi Joo-hwan, left fielder Won Sung-joon, right fielder Lee Hyung-jong, catcher Kim Gun-hee, and shortstop Lee Jae-sang. The starting pitcher was right-hander Ha Young-min.
Kiwoom struck first. In the first inning, Lee singled to center field. Dawson grounded to the pitcher, advancing Lee Joo-hyung to second. In the next at-bat, Song Sung-moon doubled to right field to score the first run of the inning. Kim Hye-sung followed with a single to center field to bring home Song, who was on second base. 2-0.
Doosan answered back with a single from Yang Seok-hwan to tie the game at one.
The leadoff hitter, Heo Kyung-min, drew a walk and advanced to first base. Yang lined out to shortstop. On a 1B-2S pitch, Yang hit a five-pitch curveball from Kiwoom starter Ha Young-min over the left field wall. 2-2.
Doosan led off the sixth inning with a single to left by Heo Kyung-min. Yang Ji-hyun flied out to right field for the second out. Yang Seok-hwan and Kang Seung-ho drew consecutive walks to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Park Jun-young stepped to the plate. He hit a double over the center field fence against Kim Dong-wook, who was on the mound in place of Cho Young-gun.
Both runners came home.
Trailing 7-2 with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Kim Hye-sung hit a towering solo arch off Lee Kyo-hoon. Her 11th of the season. Lee tacked on one more run in the ninth on an RBI single by Lee Joo-hyung, but nothing dramatic happened.
Doosan starter Kwak Bin earned the win with six innings of three-hit ball, five walks, eight strikeouts and two runs. His ninth win of the season. Kim Taek-yeon pitched one scoreless inning in the ninth to earn his 11th save of the season. Heo Kyung-min went 3-for-3 with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored, Yang Seok-hwan went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, and Park Jun-young went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI to lead the offense.
Kiwoom starter Ha Young-min took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits (one home run) with five walks and four strikeouts in 5⅔ innings. Second pitcher Cho Young-gun gave up four runs on one hit, two walks and one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings. Kim Hye-sung was 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored, while Lee Joo-hyung was 1-for-5 with a home run, one RBI and one run scored.
