Hwang In-beom (Tsrvena Zvezda) expressed his gratitude to his fans for supporting the national team while soothing his disappointing performance in the Asian Cup.
“The Asian Cup is over,” Hwang said on his blog recently. “It is not easy to recover mentally and physically after losing to Jordan in the semifinals because the tournament was a competition that we desperately prepared, both personally and team. As league games are waiting, time to despair is also a luxury.”
“To put the team story aside for a while and tell a personal story, if I had to choose between satisfaction and disappointment with how I felt about myself in this competition, of course, it was a very disappointing competition,” he said.
Hwang In-beom showed a humble attitude despite the criticism he received. “As expected, many people criticize and criticize me through my SNS comments or messages. I’m not surprised because it’s always happened, but I’m sweet because there is no other way but to overcome it mentally and grow skillfully,” he said. “I admit that there were many parts that deserved criticism as a national team player.”

Recalling his return home after the Asian Cup, Hwang In-beom said, “I came back a little nervous because I was a little worried about how I would feel if the people I meet at Incheon Airport swear at me.” However, the words and actions that countless people I met that day said to me made me think that I was a really small person.
Hwang In-beom said, “For me, the criterion for judging whether a soccer player is a successful player is that if there is at least one fan who truly misses and visits the player after he retires, I think he is a successful career.” “From that point of view, I spread that after retirement, I will become a successful soccer player.”
“This is something I want to say to my brothers, friends and younger brothers who are going through a lot of difficult times due to the lack of soccer skills in this tournament, including myself,” he said. “We were selected as 26 players because they are all the best soccer players in Korea. So let’s not lose our pride. There are still more people who support us. So let’s not lose strength by accepting our shortcomings and try our best to be recognized by as many people as possible.”
