Former Jeonbuk Hyundai coach Kim Sang-sik and former Ulsan HD FC coach Kim Do-hoon are being criticized by local media as candidates for the next head coach of the Vietnamese national soccer team.
Vietnamese English media outlet Vietnam Net Global reported on the afternoon of the 1st that the Vietnam Football Association (VFF) received documents from five overseas leaders regarding the current vacant position of the Vietnamese national soccer team.
Vietnam replaced French coach Philippe Trusier after losing 0-3 to home Indonesia in the second Asian qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA North-Central America World Cup at Midin National Stadium in Hanoi on the 26th.
“Vietnam Net Global” introduced that there are two Korean leaders among the five candidates, and that the main characters are Kim Sang-sik, former Jeonbuk coach, and Kim Do-hoon, former Ulsan coach. Kim Sang-sik won the K League 1 in 2021 and the FA Cup in 2022, while Kim Do-hoon has experienced winning the 2020 AFC Champions League, the media said.
In addition, coach Luis Manuel Hernandez, who led Daegu FC B team in the past, also reportedly expressed interest in the Vietnamese head coach. “Vietnam Net Global” explained that only three of the five foreign candidates’ applications have been confirmed, and one of the other two is Italian coach Roberto Donadoni.
