The National Basketball Association (NBA) Detroit Pistons are firing their head coach after just one season.

The Pistons have fired head coach Monty Williams, ESPN reported on Monday, citing sources.

Williams agreed to a six-year, $78.5 million head coaching contract with Detroit last June. At the time, it was the largest head coaching contract in NBA history.

The first season was a disappointment. The team lost 28 games in a row, an NBA single-season record, 토토 and finished with a 14-14 record and 68 losses.

The 68 losses were the most in franchise history and the worst in the NBA as a whole since the Philadelphia 76ers lost 72 games in 2015-16.

The team had a plausible excuse: rebuilding, but it didn’t work. ESPN reported that the decision was made at the ownership level.

He still has five years and $65 million left on his contract, but he doesn’t seem to care.

The new front office, President Trajan Langdon, will work on hiring a new head coach.

Williams has a career record of 381 wins and 404 losses with New Orleans (2010-15), Phoenix (2019-23) and Detroit (2023-24).

He led Phoenix to the Finals in 2021 and was named Coach of the Year in 2022 after winning 64 games.

ESPN reported that Williams had planned to spend time with his wife, who is undergoing chemotherapy, following his firing as Phoenix’s head coach, but opted to stay in the field by accepting Detroit’s head coaching offer.
