‘EX-SK’ KELLY PITCHES 11K IN MLB START AGAINST ‘EX-DOOSAN’ FLEXEN

Foreign pitchers Meryl Kelly (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Chris Flexen (Colorado Rockies), who dominated the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), faced off against each other in the Major League Baseball (MLB).Kelly and Flexen started the 2023 MLB game at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, USA, on Friday (July 15) and went six innings each .Kelly went six innings, striking out a whopping 11 batters and allowing two runs on five hits and one walk, while Flexen was not far behind with six innings, five hits, one walk, six strikeouts and four runs. Colorado rallied for a 6-4 victory in the nightcap, thanks in large part to a late inning rally by the offense. Kelly and Flexen did not record a win .Kelly played for the SK Wyverns (now the SSG Landers) from 2015 to 2018 before joining Arizona in 2019.He broke into the big leagues with 13 wins in 2019, his rookie MLB season, and has since secured a spot in the starting rotation. This season, he’s been Arizona’s ace .Kelly is 9-5 with a 3.05 ERA, tied for 10th in the National 스포츠토토링크 League in wins and third in ERA. Flexen joined the Seattle Mariners in 2020 after going 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA in the regular season for the Doosan Bears and a stellar 1.91 ERA in the postseason. He went 14-6 with a 3.61 ERA in his first year in Seattle, but struggled this year and was released before signing a minor league deal with Colorado .Flexen, who has struggled this season with a 1-5 record and 7.74 ERA, turned things around with six innings of relief .This isn’t the first time Kelly has been “outpitched” by a former KBO player .On May 16, he earned the win against the visiting Oakland Athletics with Drew Luchinski (formerly of the NC Dinos) on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and four walks with nine strikeouts. Luchinski had struggled the previous day, allowing five runs on five hits and five walks in 3⅔ innings, and was recently ruled out for the season with a back injury.
