The monthly submission of data from companies listed on the Korea Exchange does not provide a comment on the reasons for the fluctuations in their operating performance. The recent improvement in gaming revenue coincided with some COVID-19 response measures easing in South Korea from April 1.

Shinhan Financial Investment, a Seoul-based brokerage, suggested in a June note that the recent overseas marketing campaign of the South Korean-based foreign-only casino is likely to support the business’s profit recovery.

The group’s overall casino sales in the first half of 2022 were close to 94.73 billion won, up 135.1% year-over-year.

In the six months to June 30, Grand Korea Leisure’s casinos, the amount that customers paid to purchase table game chips, decreased by 126.5 percent year-on-year to 675.35 billion won.

Grand Korea Leisure is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The casino operator, under the Seven Luck brand, operates three foreigner-only casinos in Korea: two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.
