Casino sales at Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), which operates foreigner-only casinos, rose 34.3% month-on-month to 24.45 billion won ($18.8 million) in June. Sales rose 65.0% year-on-year in June 2022, data released Monday showed.
Table game sales were 22.15 billion won, up 36.9% sequentially and 66.9% year-over-year.
Grand Korea Leisure’s machine game sales rose 13.3 percent to nearly W2.3 billion in June. Compared to the same period last year, it increased 49.1 percent.
The monthly submission of data from companies listed on the Korea Exchange does not provide a comment on the reasons for the fluctuations in their operating performance. The recent improvement in gaming revenue coincided with some COVID-19 response measures easing in South Korea from April 1.
Shinhan Financial Investment, a Seoul-based brokerage, suggested in a June note that the recent overseas marketing campaign of the South Korean-based foreign-only casino is likely to support the business’s profit recovery.
The group’s overall casino sales in the first half of 2022 were close to 94.73 billion won, up 135.1% year-over-year.
In the six months to June 30, Grand Korea Leisure’s casinos, the amount that customers paid to purchase table game chips, decreased by 126.5 percent year-on-year to 675.35 billion won.
Grand Korea Leisure is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The casino operator, under the Seven Luck brand, operates three foreigner-only casinos in Korea: two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.
