The KT Wiz swept the Doosan Bears in a three-game weekend series.
KT won 3-1 on Saturday at Jamsil Stadium against Doosan in the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League behind a complete-game shutout by starter Ko Young-pyo.
With the two wins in the three-game weekend series, KT (49-2-44) is one win shy of 50 for the season.
Doosan, which has not won back-to-back games, is now 47-1-44 on the season.
Ko Young-pyo led his team to victory with a stellar performance.
Ko went seven innings with six hits, one walk, five strikeouts and one earned run to become the first homegrown starter in the 10 clubs to reach 10 wins (five).
Doosan starter Kwak Bin did his part with seven innings of six-hit ball, two walks, eight strikeouts and three runs, but couldn’t get any support from his offense and suffered his fourth loss of the season (nine wins).
KT scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the lead.
After a leadoff walk by Kim Min-hyuk and a single to right by Lee Ho-yeon put runners on first and second with no outs, Hwang Jae-gyun singled up the middle.
Park Byung-ho followed with a single and Anthony Alford’s grounder put runners on first and third with Lee scoring from third.
KT was unable to capitalize, but Ko Young-pyo retired the Doosan batters in order to maintain the two-run lead.
After putting runners in scoring position in the second, third, and fifth innings, the Doosan bats didn’t break their silence until the sixth inning.
With one out, Jose Rojas hit a double that landed in front of Ko Young-pyo. After advancing to third on Kim Jae-hwan’s grounder, Rojas came home on Ko’s wild pitch.
After Doosan pulled within one run, KT struck again in the top of the seventh.
One out later, Choi Jae-dae doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on a walk by Kwak Bin. Kim Min-hyuk followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Bae Jae-dae.
Down 1-3, Doosan had runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh as Kang Seung-ho walked and Heo Kyung-min singled to right, but Jung Soo-bin flied out to left field to end the threat.
KT closed out the game with Park Young-hyun in the eighth and Kim Jae-yoon in the ninth. Kim Jae-yoon recorded his 19th save of the season. 토토사이트
