WOMEN’S BASKETBALL NORTH AND SOUTH KOREAN WOMEN’S CHEERLEADERS CHOSE THE SAME SONG

On the afternoon of the 29th, the Olympic Sports Center Arena in Hangzhou was the site of the women’s basketball Group C match between North and South Korea at the Hangzhou Asian Games. About an hour before the start of the game, a Korean song could be heard faintly from one side amidst the Chinese songs that filled the stadium. It was the 40 or so North Korean “female cheerleaders” who had taken early seats in the stands on the third floor of the stadium .Dressed in matching white hats and white T-shirts with the North Korean flag printed on them, the cheerleaders sang and chanted in unison. The title of the song, as revealed by the North Korean cheerleaders, was “Garira to Mount Paektu. The song was released in 2015 by the Moranbong Band, North Korea’s version of a girl group, and the lyrics read, “I will go to Mount Paektu, the home of my heart .It’s one of the few North Korean so-called “revolutionary songs” that doesn’t contain overt praise for the supreme leader, so it’s possible the supporters chose it for the stadium .The stadium was also home to some heated chants from both sides throughout the game. In the stands on the first and second floors of the stadium, about 50 South Korean cheerleaders, including team officials, sat in the stands, holding Korean flags and chanting “Korea” at the top of their lungs .The North Korean side had a large group of supporters seated on the third floor, in addition to about 20 people in the second-floor team section, unfurling large artificial flags and chanting slogans such as “Win, win, win, DPRK,” and “Good job, DPRK.” They cheered throughout the game. The North Korean supporters also booed the South Korean players when they shot 온라인카지노 free throws .In the end, South Korea, led by head coach Chung Sun-min, defeated North Korea 81-62.
