WOMEN’S SOCCER ‘QUARTERFINAL NORTH-SOUTH CLASH’ ON TUESDAY BIGGEST HURDLE TO FINAL

The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games women’s soccer quarterfinal matchup between North and South Korea will take place on Tuesday. The South Korean women’s national team, coached by Colleen Bell, will take on North Korea in the quarterfinals at Wenzhou Sports Center Stadium in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Women’s soccer will be the second inter-Korean matchup in the team ball games at the Games, following women’s basketball on Sept. 29.South Korea is ranked 20th in the world by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), while North Korea is unranked. This has nothing to do with the quality of North Korea’s women’s soccer team, which hasn’t competed in an international tournament in more than two years. The head-to-head record between the women’s national soccer teams of South Korea and North Korea is one win, three draws, and 15 losses. The only win came 18 years ago, in August 2005, at the East Asian Confederation Cup. South Korea won 1-0 in a match played in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province .Since then, the teams have met 12 times with two draws and 10 losses At the Asian Games, they have met five times and lost all five games .The previous Asian Games women’s soccer results were 0-7 in Beijing 1990, 0-2 in Busan 2002, 1-4 in Doha 2006, 1-3 in Guangzhou 2010 and 1-2 in Incheon 2014.South Korea’s best results at the Asian Games are bronze in 2010, 2014 and 2018, while North Korea won the title in 2002, 2006 and 2014.The winner of this matchup will clear the biggest hurdle on the way to the final. The winner of the match between Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei will meet in the quarterfinals, with Chinese Taipei ranked 38th and Uzbekistan 50th in the FIFA rankings. The favorites, Japan (No. 8) and China (No. 15), will both have to wait until the final to meet .Neither Bell nor the women’s national soccer team can afford to back down .After going into the FIFA Women’s World Cup in August promising to finish higher than the round of 16 and then being knocked out in the group stage, a failure to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament would mark the first time the team has failed to reach the quarterfinals of an Asian Games in 25 years, since finishing fifth at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok. They are also in the same group as North Korea in the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers, so the outcome of today’s match will be crucial to their chances of qualifying for the Paris Games. In the group stage of the tournament, North Korea played Singapore twice, winning comfortably 7-0 and 10-0.Kim Yong-yong, who leads the team in goals with six, will be one to watch. “It’s a must-win game,” Bell said ahead of the match. “They’ve only played two games in the group, and they have one more rest day than us, but we’ll do our 바카라사이트 best to prepare.”
