‘Left-back collapse’ Man Utd target ‘Inter UCL final hero’ DF as alternative

With both of their left-back defenders out injured, Manchester United are targeting Inter Milan’s Federico Di Marco.

Spanish outlet Pichajes quoted Italian outlet Calcio Mercato as saying on June 18 (KST), “Manchester United, led by manager Eric ten Haag, are targeting Inter’s talented defender. The Dutchman is aware of the impact Di Marzio has had on Inter and is very interested in bringing him to his team.”

United don’t currently have a professional left-back they can rely on. Luke Shaw, the main man, suffered a muscle injury in August and has yet to return. Shaw’s backup, Tyrrell Malacia, is also out with an injury. Sergio Reguilon, who was brought in on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, is also injured.

United have used midfielder Sofiane Amrabat and right fullback Diogo Dalot in previous games, but left-back is not their primary position. With a number of injuries on the left flank, United has conceded 12 goals in eight league games. That’s the eighth highest of the 20 clubs in the EPL.

One player who has been linked with United is Inter’s Dimarco. The former Inter youth team player never quite found a place in the team and spent time on loan with the likes of Ascoli Calcio and Empoli. After moving to FC Sion in Switzerland in the summer of 2017, Di Marco returned to Inter a year later, only to be loaned out again to Parma, Hellas Verona, and other clubs.

Di Marzio began to emerge as a regular for Inter in the 2021/22 season under Simone Inzaghi. He scored two goals and provided four assists in 42 games across all competitions that season. Last season, Di Marco stepped up his game. He finished the 2022/23 season with six goals and 10 assists in 50 games. He helped Inter reach the UEFA Champions League final.

He has one goal and three assists in nine games this season. His performances at Inter earned him a spot on the Italian national team under Luciano Spalletti. He has two goals and one assist in 14 games for the Italian national team.

However, it’s unclear if United will get their wish. According to Pichajes, Inter have set a price tag of 55 바카라 million euros ($784 million) for Di Marco. Aside from United, French side Paris Saint-Germain are also in the running for the player.
