Doosan’s undefeated run, Hanwha’s ‘joy and sorrow’ in the first draw

Doosan upset KIA 5-4 in a game between Doosan Bears and KIA Tigers at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on Saturday, continuing its fifth consecutive victory in an exhibition game. Hanwha led 11-6 until the ninth inning, but allowed KT to tie the game at 11-11. LG, Samsung, and SSG overcame their losses the previous day to end their two consecutive exhibition games with one win and one loss.

Doosan, which blocked KIA’s batting line with only three hits the previous day, came from behind to beat KIA 5-4 this time with Jeon Min-jae’s solo shot in the seventh inning. KIA won 4-3 in the sixth inning with Socrates’ downed run, but Choi Ji-min earned two earned runs, including a solo shot to Jeon Min-jae. Doosan’s veteran Lee Young-ha and rookie Kim Taek-yeon blocked the seventh, eighth and ninth innings without allowing any points, following rookie Choi Joon-ho.

Hanwha did well against KT at home in Daejeon, but failed to overcome the last hurdle. KT scored five runs in the ninth inning alone, starting with Jung Joon-young’s hit, destroying Joo Hyun-sang and Lee Choong-ho. As for Hanwha, Jang Ji-soo, Jang Min-jae, Kim Seo-hyun and Lee Min-woo, led by Sanchez, showed no-scoring pitching, but it was a fatal blow that the rest of the bullpen pitchers failed to cheer up.

LG, which suffered a come-from-behind loss to NC the previous day, finished the two consecutive away games in Changwon 11-7. It was impressive when left-hander Son Joo-young allowed two runs in four innings, and rookie Jung Ji-heon deleted the inning after only three batters. LG scored six runs in the eighth and ninth innings alone, preventing its team from losing consecutive games. Lee Jae-won’s sacrifice fly in the eighth inning and Heo Do-hwan’s timely two runs as a pinch hitter were crucial.

Samsung, which lost to Lotte the previous day, won 3-2 with Kim Young-woong’s three-run shot in the fifth inning. Lotte starter Na Kyun-an showed good pitching without losing a point until the fourth inning, but it was a fatal hit to Kim Young-woong after giving up a right-handed hit to Oh Jae-il and a walk to Kim Dong-jin in the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Lee Seung-hyun showed anxiety by allowing two runs in two innings, but Choi Ha-neul, Jang Pil-jun, Yang Hyun-hyun, Lee Jae-ik, and Kim Tae-hoon combined for seven scoreless innings to cheer up in the fight for the first time in a long time.

The SSG-Kium match at Munhak Stadium in Incheon, which started an hour later than other venues, was won by SSG, avenging its previous defeat by 11-6. Park Sung-han’s timely two-run homer to the right in the second inning was the decisive factor in his early victory.
