How the Pohang Steelers ‘attacked the backfield’ to take the lead

It’s ‘attack from behind’ versus ‘attack from behind’.

The Pohang Steelers came from behind to beat the Daejeon Hana Citizens 2-1 in the sixth round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at Daejeon World Cup Stadium at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Pohang (13 points, 4 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss, 9 goals, 4 assists) is in first place, while Daejeon (5 points, 1 win, 2 draws, 3 losses, 6 goals, 9 assists) is in 10th place.

The home team, led by head coach Lee Min-sung, started with a 3-5-2 formation. Leandro and Shin Sang-yi started up top. In the midfield were Lee Dong-won, Joo Se-jong, Kim Seung-dae, Lim Duk-geun, and Hosa. The defense was composed of Anton, Aaron, and Lee Jung-taek. 바카라사이트 Lee Chang-geun wore the goalkeeper’s gloves.

The visiting Pohang team, coached by Park Tae-ha, lined up in a 4-4-2 formation. The front line was led by Joji and Yoon Min-ho. In the midfield, Baek Sung-dong, Oberdan, Han Chan-hee, and Kim In-sung held the line. The back four consisted of Wandelsson, Park Chan-yong, Lee Dong-hee, and Eo Jung-won. Hwang In-jae was in goal.

Daejeon, who recorded their first win of the season after beating Ulsan HD (2-0), looked to rebound. Pohang, unbeaten against Daegu FC (3-1 win), Gwangju FC (1-0 win), Jeju United (2-0 win) and Suwon FC (1-1 draw), was looking for a fifth straight win. For both teams, the goal was three points without fail.

Head coaches Lee Min-sung and Park Tae-ha had the same point. How well they attacked the opponent’s backline. “Modern soccer is all about the back,” said Park Tae-ha before the Daejeon game. There are ways to get in, whether you pull it out or go in directly,” Park emphasized.

“I think we need to continue to target the back space a lot (after the Ulsan game),” said Pohang head coach Lee Min-sung. “There were a lot of things that the opponent didn’t do well in that space, and we’re trying to use Shin Sang-woo or Leandro to get into that space.

The starting lineup reflects the will of both coaches. Daejeon has the speedy Leandro and the line-breaking Kim Seung-dae. Pohang has the footy Joji and the original speed racer Kim In-sung. After the kickoff, both Daejeon and Pohang focused on attacking the backline.

It was Daejeon who had the first laugh. In the first minute of the second half, Lee Jung-taek sent a cross into the box. Leandro, who was looking for an opening in the back of the Pohang defense, scored the first goal with a powerful header.

In the final minutes of the game, Pohang fought back. In the 36th minute, Kim In-sung picked up a backpass from Kim Han-seo to Hong Jung-woon. The deflected ball beat Lee Chang-geun and found the back of the net to tie the game.

The game was turned on its head. In second-half stoppage time, Kim Lun-sung sent a cross into the box. Jeong Jae-hee finished the ball, which was saved by Lee Yong-joon, and scored. Pohang was the winner of the attack in the back.
