Hanyang University won its first game of the 79th National Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship at the Glory Sports Center Gymnasium on Feb. 2, defeating Myongji University 77-73 in Group A of the men’s collegiate division.

Myongji University finished the preliminary round with a 1-1 record, securing second place in the group and a spot in the quarterfinals. Hanyang held off a late charge from Myeongji University to secure the victory.

Park Sung-jae (20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) scored a team-high 20 points, while Park Min-jae (17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals) scored 11 points in the fourth quarter alone to lead the comeback. Kim Sun-woo (13 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals) also contributed with an even performance.

Myeongji University fell just short of the victory despite strong performances from Lee Min-cheol (20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Harrigan (15 points, 6 rebounds), Lee Tae-woo (10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists), and Park Ji-hwan (9 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists).
