After securing a spot in the Round of 16, the Korean women’s table tennis team won their final match against Cuba to finish the group stage with a four-game sweep.
The Korea Women’s Table Tennis Team (No. 5) won their fourth match against Cuba (No. 43) in Group 5 of the BNK Busan Bank 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships with a match score of 3-0 (3-0, 3-0, 3-0) at BEXCO Busan on Monday.
After securing a spot in the Round of 16 with a win over Puerto Rico (No. 9) the day before, the Women’s National Team also swept Cuba to complete a four-match sweep of the group stage.
After qualifying early for the round of 16, South Korea rested Shin Yoo-bin and Jeon Jeon-hee. In their place, Lee Eun-hye and Yoon Hyo-bin made their first appearance of the tournament.
In the first match of the day, Ision (No. 44) faced Daniela Fonseca Carrasana (No. 179) and dominated, winning 3-0. Ision won all four of her matches in the group stage of the tournament.
Ision pushed Carasana hard from the first set. After scoring five points to start the match, they gave up two, but after trading points, they scored four in a row to take a 6-3 lead, and after giving up a point, they immediately attacked to take the first set.
Ision’s momentum continued in the second set. They started the game with an error, but quickly closed the gap with eight straight points. They then traded points, and with a 10-4 lead, Ishion was able to hold serve to take the second set.
The start of the third set was a tightly contested affair. With the score tied at 4-4, Ision scored seven straight points to take the lead. The set score was 3-0 to end the match.
In her first World Championships appearance, 65th-ranked Eun Hye Lee (Korea) won 3-0 against Estela Crespo (240th). She won the first game hard, but once she warmed up, she pushed Crespo hard.
The first set was close. It was a battle from the start. Whenever one player tried to escape, the other would chase them down. Eventually, it came down to 10-10 deuce. After trading points, the score was tied at 12-12 when Lee scored back-to-back points to take the first set.
After a hard-fought first set, Lee took the second set with ease. She started with five points to start the set and then went back and forth to take a 7-3 lead before finishing with four straight points.
The momentum continued. At 1-1, she scored five straight points to go up 6-1. Crespo then dropped a point, but she reeled off four points to take match point. She 스포츠토토 then dropped four points to fall behind, but was able to score the final point to close out the match.
In the third match, Hyo Bin Yoon (159th) showed the difference in quality against Rosalba Aguilar Lao.

In the third set, Yoon’s momentum was strong. Leading 7-5, she scored four straight points to close out the match 11-5.
